What Locals Say about Bowling Green

  • Trulia User

"Bowling Green is a family friendly college mid-sized community. The University has an enrollment of approximately 20K students and affords many sporting, artistic and other activities for the public. The University is part of the Mid American Conference. The city of BG is safe, friendly and also holds many events. The Nat’l Tractor Pull is held here as well as the Black Swamp Arts Festival. These events each bring thousands of people to town. Biggest drawback is not much in the way of public transportation, although it is a walkable and bike friendly town. Just south of Toledo Ohio and about a 40 min drive to Michigan border."

"Been here over four years. Neighbors are friendly and keep an eye out. It’s quiet and not much activity late at night. I feel safe walking late at night. "

"I have lived here for almost 8 years and it is very safe to live here. There are some rental companies and very easy to find an apartment. I did not have any problem not getting package. There are public transit like super cub as taxi or uber (sometimes..). I would say having a car is mostly better to go grocery shopping.. its pretty far from campus. People are very nice and understanding. "

"Easy to get on the highway or route 25. Not far from perrysburg. I like that it’s not overly crowded here even though it’s a college town"

"Every winter we have a Winterfest, a Black Swamp Arts Festival at the end of summer, and many farmers markets. We also have festivals throughout the year bringing live music, art, food trucks, and activities. There is always something to do. The community is full of personality. "

"It’s a college town. Conservative locals meet liberal college students. It’s like Kent but smaller and with less to do. People can be rude and inconsiderate. Electric bills are way too high and gas is expensive. Dining scene should be more diverse. There’s no place that is well priced with quality food. Everything is spread out in an awkward fashion. It takes 30 minutes to drive to all the necessary stores because of where they are all located "

"As long as you're not on a main street, I love it. Stores are close and schools are within biking distance. I like that it has the college town vibe, it's close enough to main highways and its quite community oriented for the size. "

"Since Bowling Green is both the county seat (Wood County) and the home of Bowling Green State University and is located adjacent to I-75, the environment in BG is active and stimulating for people of all ages. We moved to BG to raise our family. It was a good choice."
