7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy experience in this school from the last 3 years was rough. Teachers are so quick to bring a grade down, but not up. They don't care about the students mental-wellbeing. I felt like it was prison, having to wake up at 6:30am and going to bed at 11PM every day, just to come here for 7 hours. The food here is gross, and the head lunch monitor does not work well with students. The hall monitors are super crummy, and are very selective in disciplining the students. 8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageHalf-Hollow Hills school district overall is a quality education. All 3 of my children graduated from this district within the last 3-4 years and I found they adjusted well to college and did not struggle to make the adjustment due to academic weaknesses. The environment has a decently diverse student body for Long Island if that is what you are looking for. However, I would caution that treatment of African-American students has been sub-par in my view and the district needs to do better in this area. It isn't in your face discrimination but matters are not handled transparently and evenly in my view. I believe the district should look to emphasize character and and respect for others more. The proportion of persons of color in the faculty is poor. Again, this is an area the district needs to do more. You will need to stay on top of the faculty to ensure your child is being treated with fairness.There is a lot of passive aggressive behavior and classism that we witnessed in terms of the environment even though a lot of the families are really not wealthy but they feel they are. In terms of overall education I would say it is a good if not great value for the money but far from perfect district to send your kids to.Parent Review2y ago - Otsego Elementary School

"There are no sidewalks to walk dogs, so every one just let's their dogs poop on your lawn. Found a beautiful neighborhood in Florida with sidewalks and poop bag stations. Taxes are much less, and we're leaving Long Island."

"I have grown up in Dix Hills and I have raised my family here. The school system is fantastic and we are 20 minutes from everywhere because the parkways are right here. The local restaurants are great and the shopping is convenient. It is a very close knit town and there is a lot of involvement in sports and activities with the kids. We have Tanger Outlet and the Whitman Mall close by as well as shopping on Jericho Turnpike. There we have electronic and sport stores, restaurants, fast food, Macys, Home Depot, etc. Then up the road is Costco, the new Lowes, Target, Home Depot, Home Goods, The Guitar Center, Starbucks and plenty of grocery stores everywhere! We are welcoming Northern Farms up the road! The homes are beautiful and the neighborhoods are well cared for. I recommend Dix Hills highly."
