Thanks to the PTA, the school offers extracurricular classes such as technology, music, etc. that I have not seen in other public schools. We were new to the area 2 years ago and were pleasantly surprised by the welcoming community at Hillcrest. This is a public school that parents with means choose to go, because of its inclusive and welcoming culture. Teachers we’ve had so far - K to 2nd grade - have been top-notch, genuinely helping kids towards academic excellence. We’ve seen our kids excel academically and socially. 7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son graduated from Oakland Tech in 2021. They prepared him for college and is doing well. He was part of the Race, Policy, and Law academy and had excellent teachers. My son had an IEP and his services were excellent. I'm disappointed in the review by the parent complaining about "labor strife." Very consistent with my experience with many of the families there. Truthfully, they were very rude and entitled. "There are many people with dogs in the neighborhood. Some people walk their dogs at Mountain View Cemetery or in the Redwood Hills or at Lake Temescal. People often walk their dogs in the neighborhood, too. In such a hilly area, it's easy to get a workout in."

"The AC Transit bus that takes you right into the city is very relaxing and often has wifi and comfy seats. You can also drive down to Rockridge and take either BART or casual carpool. These three options make commuting into SF super easy. Commuting to the South Bay is harder because you often have to drive and there's a great deal of traffic."

"Hillcrest School is amazing and has an extremely strong PTA that raises lots of funds that allow the school to hire about a dozen extra staff. It's an amazing school and community. There are plenty of parks nearby in Montclair, Rockridge, and Lake Temescal. In Oakland, you have many things to do for kids, like the zoo, Fairyland, and much more. Upper Rockridge is a safe neighborhood. Some streets are busier with cars and not every street has a sidewalk, but it's generally a place where young kids are safe to walk around."

"I moved here with my family five years ago and we love it here. It's a neighborhood with lots of families. Often, older seniors or young families with kids at the local schools (often Hillcrest). We got lucky to find a home here and can't imagine leaving. There's great access to restaurant and stores on College and Montclair. They're building a brand new shopping center on Broadway that we're excited about. There are many parks to visit for kids nearby. And driving to SF is easy. Honestly, though we don't miss SF and head to downtown Oakland if we're ever in need of something more. Commuting into the city is super easy from here. You can take the bus which is very relaxing. Or you can drive down to Bart or casual carpool and leave your car there to head into the city."

"Easy access to top notch services, restaurants and transportation. A gorgeous walking neighborhood with views and established trees. Very friendly neighbors for a sense of community, and a variety of professions and interests brings a cosmopolitan tone. Claremont Pines is on the first hills of Upper Rockridge, adjacent the Claremont Country Club & Golf Course. It is a fantastic blend of North Berkeley, Montclar and Piedmont communities in the best of Rockridge. We need to move, and know we are leaving a rare environment within the Bay Area. "
