5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageHawthorne has had a bad image in the past, but it has done wonders to turn it around. There are many programs in place dedicated to supporting students and their needs. Some of these programs include after-school tutoring, therapy, intervention specialists, ELD support, AP classes, academies, etc. The school district also offers teachers regular professional development (some required and some optional). The majority of teachers on this campus are passionate educators who truly care about the students. For the most part, the students at the school are happy to be here and ready to learn.Teacher Review6y ago - Leuzinger High School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageNot so good of a reputation so it was scary to enroll my son here but it’s actually a great school. My son has told me he gets along very well and very little to none bullying you see. I’ve met the teachers they are very nice and so is the staff. Teachers are strict though but it’s a good school.Parent Review2y ago - Lawndale High School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son had the opportunity to go to an elite private school for free in Los angeles. We chose to go to Lawndale High School for their academies and their Sports program. We are so happy that we did. The academics especially in the honors and AP classes are excellent.Parent Review8mo ago - Will Rogers Middle School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs a Will Rogers student there some good things About this school and there are bad things, like the fact that the teacher's at this school have some of the most crazies, rudest attitudes, like the Computer and 6th grade math teacher (not all of them) has the worst attitudes ever and they are very hard to approach and when you do, they don't seem that Interested or Appreciated when you asked a question. Also this school is so strict on the bathroom policy it's so messed up that we need a bathroom pass just to empty out our bladder especially when middle school is when your body is changing from a kid to a teenager (especially the girls) so it's important to use the restroom when you need to and you shouldn't need to have a bathroom pass at all. Like I said earlier there are some good things at this school like the fact that they have a lot of after school activities that let us (students) express our likings and hobbies. Also this school has a class that focuses on students leadership qualities and helps shyness into something more than just anxiety. They also make and plan school activities (mostly during lunch). These activities mostly focuses on common problems like the challenges of starting 6 grade, drugs, climate change, mental health, etc... and fun things like, red ribbon week, spirt week,Earth week, etc... Yes each school has bad and good things to everything they do, but if we all come together we can change things for the better and make Will Rogers Middle School a safe, happy learning environment. Thank you for your time reading this lengthy paragraph and have a great day/night!Student Review6mo ago - William Anderson Elementary School

What Locals Say about Lawndale

"Lived here for a few years. Very safe neighborhood. Close to freeways, tons of grocery store nearby. Not much in terms of nightlife which is fine, but Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach piers were our go to for a date night. Weather is 11/10. Never too hot because you’re still close enough to the beach breeze."

"My neighborhood is pleasant. Most homes are modest with scarcely scattered expensive home throughout. Schools could be better but modest, older homes have sourced low to middle wage earners. Still some areas, Southwest Lawndale is pretty safe. "

"Close to the freeway- 15 minute drive to beaches. Neighborhood is older with various types of homes and homeowners. Lots of dogs run free without owner or off leash with owners. Area near train tracks is loud. Fireworks everyday at some point just loud and obnoxious. "

"My commute isn’t bad. I drive to the Torrance/Redondo Beach area. It is scary at times as there are some younger people with fast cars that drive somewhat recklessly down some of the smaller one way streets, which makes it unsafe. There aren’t many lights either that aid us to getting onto the major streets (Inglewood, Artesia and Hawthorne). "

"I would like for them to pick up there dog poop if they walked their dogs. Or if they let their dogs loose at least walk with them to pick up after them. Dog owners would also like if they made dog parks doe they can take their pets there to play and meet other neighbors with dogs. "
