6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageLearning: The teachers help me with things I don't understand. Like in math, I got from a D to an A. As somebody with autism, Special Education helps me with my things and speech issues and ways to talk to students without being weird. A lot of them are pretty nice and understanding of issues overall. The school is not necessarily safe, even if the teachers are nice, a lot of them can't control the classroom and fights break out. At least they are quick to stop it. The kids are sometimes mean, but most are pretty accepting of other students they don't know. I am pretty sure that they do this for students who need extra help as they ask for what is up when issues occur at school. The school is okay, as long as you can deal with some of the annoying students and don't push them, you should be okay.Student Review2mo ago - Manlio Silva Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy 3 children are new to this school, & it has been the worst experience ever! From the morning crossing guard in the parking lot who congests the cars, to the negligent & lazy office staff, and all 3 of my children's teachers, this school is seriously lacking. The school year is over in 3 months & my 1st grader has learned nothing all year. Things being taught here in 1st grade, he learned in kindergarten at his previous school. My 4th grader was doing multiplication/division in 3rd grade at his previous school, yet this school has barely started working on it more than half-way through the year. My kindergartener is barely learning anything & is not at the level she should be this far in the year or even close to where her brother was at in kinder at their previous school. 2 out of my 3 kids NEVER get homework/computer work to complete at home, nor are there weekly reports or anything communicating to parents, so there's no follow up/reinforcement of what they're "learning" in class. This school does not seem to put education as a priority & unfortunately, it's showing in my children (this school year has been a total waste). Here's two examples of the many I've witnessed from this negligent & lazy front office staff: I was waiting at the front office to drop off goodies for my child's class & this very young (1st grade?) special needs student comes walking down the hall by himself. He stands in front of the office window & is staring at them just chat away. He must've been standing there for 3 minutes before I had to interrupt them and let them know a child was waiting for them. They asked him what he was doing there & told him he wasn't supposed to be up there, but he didn't respond (he may have been nonverbal), so they just ignored his presence & continued their conversation. Oh! Today my child forgot his lunch. I went to the school & after being buzzed in, I immediately walk to the office window & instead of greeting me or offering me assistance, the woman gets on the phone to make a call. After her call, I let her know my son forgot his lunch & she instructs me to just leave it on the table (out in the open) & someone would take it to him. I wrote a note w/ his name, grade, teacher's name & left it on his lunch pail. I have so little faith in this school that I asked my son if he got his lunch & he says they didn't bring it to him until 1:20pm. Mind you, I dropped it off 4 hours prior at 9:30am & lunch is at 12pm. This school seriously sucks!Parent Review2y ago - Check out schools near 4258 Sturgeon Rd.
