7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur family has had a great experience at HFMS. They have many extracurricular activities to get the kids involved and the teachers really care about the success of their students. Love the new addition and extra parking provided for ease of pick up. The security doors and actually utilizing them properly makes us very happy. The administration is professional and top notch, I could go on and on, but will just say this middle school is great!Parent Review8y ago - Jefferson High School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have two kids that currently attend JHS. The school has quite a few problems, kids smoke/vape in the bathrooms all day and nobody does anything about it, teachers allow horrible profanity, there are mice in some parts of the school, the D wing stinks of sewage when it rains, the secondary gym is old and musty with terrible ventilation. The kids are not allowed enough time to go to their lockers between classes so they have to lug ALL their books all day. The school is unable to plan lunch time so kids have enough seats in the cafeteria so some kids have to eat in the hallways sitting on the floor. While doing virtual the teachers barely spend any time instructing, my kids maybe get a couple hours a day. The teachers do not follow their own plan to assign homework for the week on Monday but rather do it haphazardly. The teachers seem lazy and not vested in properly teaching during the shutdown. Instead assigning busy work to make it seem like they are doing something.Parent Review3y ago - Check out schools near 401 Henry Clay St.

What Locals Say about Harpers Ferry

"There is a great community park but transportation is required. There is a lake and plenty of hiking possibilities to take your kids on. Tubing & kayaking are regular summer activities in this area."

"We have not participated in any neighborhood events. We have paid for a cooking class for kids at the community center which was less than optimal. My parents live here as well and they overpaid for use of the lake for two years...disappointing my kids on more than one occasion. In general it is a great place to live. We just hope the use of the lake gets worked out sooner than later."

"We have not participated in any community events in our neighborhood. We joined the community center for a cooking class for kids once, they try to provide activities at the Mountain Community Center."

"There is many events that go on down here and you can be right by the river and hike anytime. If your a member of blue ridge acres you can go to the pool and all the events."

"It is a beautiful commute along the Shenandoah River. There is only one road in and out of my neighborhood so it makes the commute difficult when we have impassable conditions. Snow, ice, traffic accidents and downed power lines can prevent getting to work. It does not happen often, but it can happen."

"Peace and quiet is the number one attraction. local volunteer fire station hosts a variety of potlucks throughout the year."

"SOME of the Neighbors suck, the houses are nice, and schools are cool. I cant complain too much. They plow the snow on time every year. "

"There are not a lot of street lights unless you li e in town. Downtown has a lot of areas to walk and there are a lot of nature trails to hike with your dog in the area."

"All wild life are welcome here. No one will bother you, just need to make sure you leash your animals as there are some people that decide leashing isn’t necessary and it could be dangerous. Also drivers around here don’t abide by the speed limit."

"Lots of wild animals are fun to watch. Birds to bears. Dogs sometimes run loose so keep an eye out for country critters. "
- Sebastian R.

"A quaint historic town located at the confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers (also, the tri-state point of WV, VA, and MD). Because of the town's central location, Northern Virginia, Martinsburg, Frederick, and Winchester are all within an hour's drive; Baltimore and Washington are just over an hour."

"I love to walk in the park and I can hop on the train if I want to go into D.C. Everyone here is happy and friendly. The tourist are nice as well. I couldn't ask for a more enchanted place to live."
