Description

This property is not currently for sale or for rent on Trulia. The description and property data below may have been provided by a third party, the homeowner or public records.
Sitting on 1.5 acres, this home was originally built in 1805 (all plank construction), and was fully restored in the early 80s. The entire restoration was done with an attempt to keep the classic charm of an 1800s era farmhouse. There are exposed hand hewn beams throughout the home. The home was lifted and a full concrete block basement was constructed in 1982. This basement extends underneath the L-shaped all brick front porch, this portion of the basement is 7 ft wide and 48 ft long. The area contains a large coal bin (with 10 ton of coal in it), well holding tank, oil furnace, and oil tanks. This entire area is separated from the main basement area. Heating of the home can be done by the hot water base board heat, the coal stove, brick fireplace, or a combination of them all. Each heating system is capable of heating the entire home on its own. For the past seven years the home was heated with a modern stoker coal stove. If there oil furnace is used there are two zones, one for basement and a second for the rest of the home. For the Modern electric, plumbing, and Anderson thermal pane windows were installed during the restoration. The exterior of the home is 1/3 brick with the remainder covered in vinyl siding. A new roof, consisting of 40 year architectural shingles, was put on in 2007. A 500sqft addition was added to the back of the home. This addition has T/G knotty pine walls, granite tile flooring, and stone fireplace with gas insert. The kitchen contains all new stainless steel appliances. An island contains a ceramic top stove. The kitchen cabinets are solid oak with ceramic tile countertops. There is a laundry closet on the first floor; a Maytag washer and dryer will remain with the property. All bedrooms are on the second floor. There is one modern full bath on each floor. The yard is fenced in with a 4 foot pet fence. Height can be added to the fence to keep people out also. There is a metal gate at the opening of the driveway. There are two detached garages. Garage number 1 (24ftx36ft) has 1728sqft of space between two floors. Garage number 2 (24ftx32ft) has 1536sqft of space between two floors. Both garages have barn shaped roofs. The second floors of both garages are equal in size to the first floors. The siding and shingles on both garages match that of the home. These garages are used to store many of the antiques that I own, if the purchaser desires to keep these items, they will be included as a bonus. The contents of the garages were not used to determine or added to the price of the home. My original plan was to turn one of the garages into an antique shop, but unfortunately I have not had the time. For the past few years, my job has kept me away from home quite a bit. As a bonus to the purchaser, I will be willing to consider leaving all the antiques in the garages. I am moving to smaller home a good distance away from here to be near my children. I am recently retired and over the years have collected many antiques and unusual items. I consider most of the antique home furnishings as part of the home sale. Tools and raw construction materials are not considered a part of the home sale. Tags will be placed on any items not considered part of the home sale which are just a very few personal items. My insurance company had an adjuster here recently and said that the replacement cost for the house only is $604.000.00. This is not including any of the furnishings or antiques. The house is actually located in the Village of Thornhurst although the mailing zip code is Gouldsboro. Across the street about 350 feet away is the Lehigh river which you would have access to. The river is stocked twice a season by the fish and game commission. Less than five minutes away is the Lackawanna State Forest for hiking in the summer and snowmobilling in the winter. It is also close to both Jack Frost and Elk Mountan ski resorts. For shopping there is the factory outlet mall called The Crossings.Across the street is an old farmh
