3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI would rate my experience at this school 4/5. The people in my class were respectful most of the time although there is always the class clown and the popular group which makes it like any other school. My experiences with my teachers and other students in STEM were great but I cannot speak for those in Honors or regular classes.Student Review3y ago - Fishburn Avenue Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis was a struggling community even when I attended Fishburn in the 1940's. Many years we only could attend half day sessions. But the attitude was positive, parents were engaged, and the teachers -- many of whom we all remember with great fondness -- were reasonably committed to the students. A lot of inspiring success stories came out of Fishburn Avenue. I count mine among them.Other Review5y ago - Maywood Academy High

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe teachers are very involved in the success of the children. I notice those children with successful grades have a heavy parent involvement. I personally am glad to see that. After raising 2 children who are both now in grad school and both also gainfully employed with an irvine based engineering firm, I am proud to say that mathematics are at the backbone of Maywood Academy High.Parent Review9y ago - Bell Senior High School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI graduated 2014. I was not prepared for college. I feel that this school failed me. I didn’t know how important taking certain classes during HS would benefit me. I had some good/carrying teachers. Over all I wish I didn’t attend this school. I did NOT get the guidance I needed to be successful. I had to pave my way.Parent Review2y ago - Visual And Performing Arts At Legacy High School Complex

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOut of the 3 schools in the complex i would say that steam is the most humble and beneficial school. It has many opportunities and keeps students engaged in what they’re learning. The majority of the teachers are communicative and overall the environment is very personable. The college counselors are extremely helpful and very immersed in the futures of their students, even if you don’t know what you’re going to do they open many more doors for you. I personally get the most out of their debate team, and have learned so much out of it in general. Being a small school, classes feel like families, furthering comfortability within the community. If there were any issues regarding the school, I wouldn’t feel the need to mention them because they get resolved in a timely matter. Overall, this school is very student friendly while keeping you informed on college and career choices and making sure you are doing your academic best.Student Review10mo ago - Check out schools near 3910 E 53rd St.

"It is a predominantly working class community. The locals are mostly renters who are factory workers employed nearby Vernon. There is a lower middle class mostly tradesman who are either self employed or work for companies. There has been an increase of homeowners in the area. In addition with the 2007-2012 real estate market crash the demographics have been greatly shifted. This social flux ushered in a significant middle class that seems to be bourgeoning with small social pockets of affluent hipsters scattered throughout the city. This change can be seen at the local markets that now carry organic and environmentally conscious products as well as an increased selection of wines, craft beers, cheeses and exotic produce. Thus a sign of an educated palate vs. a big box retail generic. The schools are undergoing dramatic changes while switching to standardized tests that empirically measure aptitude and ability which are quantifiable versus classical subjective teaching. All schools are generally improving and meet or will meet state standards."
