Loy Norrix has a lot of great teachers and students. My kids enjoyed their high school experience at Loy Norrix.

I have 2 students at this school 6th and 7th graders. The teachers care, my one son was not turning in his work in class. The teacher called, and stayed after school for 3 nights to help him and a couple of other kids. He got one on one attention and now understands the assignments. The teacher even took time on the following Saturday to call me and check in on his progress he was making. I knew then this teacher really cares!I had E-mailed a concern to the principle and within a couple of hours I received a call back with details of what was done to correct the situation. Plus a follow up call the next evening. I have to say I am impressed with the staff, going on my 2nd year and 2 kids..... I have NO complaints.Very professional and caring.

We are going into our 6th year at Winchell (my oldest started in preschool there), and we are very pleased. Kalamazoo Public Schools doesn’t have the greatest reputation or scores, but Winchell is like a bright light in the district. The teachers and staff are excellent to work with, and genuinely care about each and every student. Even Winchell’s amazing custodian greats my children each morning by name! The principal knows every child and parent personally. No school is perfect, no teacher is perfect, no classroom environment is perfect — because every student is different. We have had numerous concerns over the years, and they have been addressed to our satisfaction. The teachers and principals work hard to find solutions to help my children succeed in every area, not just academics. I believe one of the key factors that makes Winchell great is the high level of parental involvement. It is expected. So if you are a hands-off parent, it might not be the best fit. But we are very involved and on top of things, constantly communicating with teachers and staff. The staff even knows my toddler by name! There is a plethora of opportunities to get involved, everything from helping with special events to being a reading helper in the classroom. We do schools of choice to keep our three children at Winchell. It is well worth the sacrifice!
