9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy children have attended Spanish Immersion at Rockford for the past 4 years and I am not impressed. My current 2nd grader repeated Kindergarten and we watched many of her classmates leave the program in both experiences with that grade. My 2nd grader continues to struggle and the only suggestions I get from the school is at home learning or a paid tutor which is one of the native speaking school assistants. My children have attended the summer Spanish program for retention and while my youngest seems to be thriving - it is simply not working for the oldest... with seemingly little help from the school teachers, principle and other staff. I am currently trying to find a space with Spanish, smaller class sizes and a place where they can reach and teach even those that struggle in early elementary.Parent Review10y ago - Parkside Elementary School

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageTerrible school due to lack of administrative involvement. Bullying, harassment, death threats are all the norm now and school leadership states its normal. The actions not taken by the school are much louder than the irrelevant inconsequential actions taken. You will get a handful of empty promises on how things will change after complaining only to find they lied to you and protect each other leaving your child in the dust. The social worker will take liberties with your child without your permission then deny and defend themselves. Not one sincere apology for all that this school has done to me, my family and my child.Parent Review2y ago - Rockford H.S. Freshman Center

What Locals Say about Rockford

"There were a group of teens going around and breaking into cars on the west side of Rockford. They came from a wealthy neighborhood nearby. They were caught and told the cops they were bored and wanted something to do. It doesn’t matter where you live there will be trouble and some point where you live. "

"Downtown Rockford is a short drive for me. I love walking downtown and there are so many shops and restaurants to go to."

"We are out in the "country" away from downtown Grand Rapids. We enjoy outdoor activities like cross country skiing and hiking. We are close enough to enjoy events and concerts going on in Grand Rapids."

"Many nice families with kids who play together. Quiet, slightly rural, but close enough to get to Grand Rapids for more urban entertainment. Our houses in our small neighborhood are just the right distance apart to be part of a neighborhood but not too close to feel crowded. "

"I have owned in Rockford for 5 years. Love it, Great place for family. Safe, walk and bike trails. Close to major roads and 10 min. to Grand Rapids. Love the downtown, smaller but very much alive. Great shops, food and beer."

"the best way to get to GR is 131 which is always backed up or under constuction. a minor inconvenience, but always plan to leave earlier than what is estimated by map apps."

"Since it’s out of the downtown area of Rockford by a little it feels extremely remote. However, we’re still close enough to get to everything! Also, it’s so quiet and peaceful (but also accepting of normal life noises)."
