Description
Humphrey Almy house c1887 was originally built as an investment property and remained in the Almy family from 1887 until 1994. Unique for its brick construction and Jerkin Head Roof, this delightful home is a mix of historic charm and modern amenities. Purposely sited close to the street it was one of the first homes built in what is now known as Paterson Park. Step through the wonderful oversized double doors and into the entry hall which is flanked by a parlor to the right and the dining room to the left. Each room is beautifully scaled with 10' ceilings and large windows flooding the spaces with natural light. At the back of the house is a study or home office, powder room and a terrific chef's kitchen with center island, wood cabinetry and a wall of glass looking over the terrace and rear garden. Up the saddle staircase to the second floor is the primary suite with a large dressing room and private bath. There are two additional bedrooms, one is presently used a multi-purpose room with laundry, and an additional full bath. The third floor is a versatile space and could serve as a studio or media room plus an additional bedroom. This one-of-a-kind property is in one of the most desirable neighborhoods on the East Side. Just steps to Paterson Park, the Lincoln school, several houses of worship and all the shops and boutiques at Wayland Square. Whole Foods, the East Side Marketplace and several restaurants are just a short stroll away. Be home in time for spring!

"The East Side Of Providence is beautiful. There’s oodles of restaurants & amazing shops over on hope street & in Wayland Sq. So, if you don’t mind walk, check out both and even Thayer St. I will say affordability is not a term thrown around over here. Most things are wildly overpriced, especially rental rates. It’s just the area, there’s no fighting it. It’s the Newport Mansions of Providence that blow up the costs. Do keep in mind it’s a college area so it’s definitely safer, but there’s a lot of grade schools in the area as well so speeding, often by locals, is a big issue for many of the parents. On top of that people double park on both sides of the street of the back roads around the boulevard which seriously sucks during garbage day, school bus season, or 4 o’clock traffic. Also, the pot holes are abhorrent. It’s a city wide issue but increasingly worse on east side. Heads up, there’s a part of Pawtucket that borders the east side. It offers essentially all the same things at a much cheaper cost. Maybe not million dollar homes, but you can walk to the boulevard & stroll by them just as you can from Butler Ave."

"It’s a beautiful, historic and convenient area for families and singles alike. Everyone looks out for each other here. Walk to shops and restaurants, some of the best in Providence only heightens the appeal. I’m spoiled!!"

"I used to live on South Angell St (building 120). I absolutely loved living in this area. The only reason we moved is because my husband got transferred in his job and we finished grad school from Brown University. I loved that most places were walkable, including Wayland Square, starbucks, the lovely boutique coffee shops, restaurants, CVS, public transport, and other amenities. It was like living in a city but quieter, safer, and a lot cleaner."
