5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI think overall this is a good school, with some excellent teachers. The main problem is that it's so big that it feels like your child is lost in the crowd. My child was in the IB Program. There is a lot of pressure for kids to do the full certificate program. In retrospect, I think the full program was a bad idea for us. It's a huge amount of work if you include CAS. The oversight of the program feels weak. Student progress doesn't seem to be tracked adequately which is stressful when your child is a procrastinator. Taking part in the program prohibited exploration of other topics because of time and scheduling. In the end, my child was still rejected, deferred or waitlisted by most of the selective schools he applied to, in spite of participation in extracurriculars, etc. You just have to weigh the stress vs the benefits obtained.Parent Review5y ago - William E Severn Elementary School

"Very dog friendly. Many people have dogs and they’re all pretty well behaved. There’s really no particularly good place for them to play though, no dog parks. But there is a really large park where there are often a couple of dogs out."

"Riverside is my favorite part of Corning. It’s the most quiet and family friendly in my opinion. Lots of historic places to explore, several family friendly museums."

"Riverside is pretty nice but some areas have obvious drug issues. Even still it has been a very safe place to raise children. "

"Corning is a quaint, quiet & a fun place to visit. As a former resident of almost 10 years, I live coming back to see family & friends, & enjoy the activities in town, or the lakes very close to town. "

"Great place to raise a family in most areas. There are a few places that are questionable. It’s always best to talk to neighbors when moving into an area!"

"Safe neighborhood and sometimes quiet both day and night. The rent fee is not too expensive. Parents can feel safe having their kids around the neighborhood to play.."

"I love walking everywhere, and the deep quiet (on a dead-end street), and so close to Market Street and Wegman's. I also work in the school system as a sub, so I can walk to practically every single school. Neighbors are great too."

"Beautiful area, especially between May and October. Little to no traffic and relatively low cost of living. Downtown area (Market Street) is very nice and the Corning Southside Hill has many beautifully restored vintage homes. Downsides are long winters and limted restaurants, shopping, and nightlife. "
