Great school for students who want to excel. My son has learned responsibility, accountability (something that’s missing in other districts), work ethic, and college readiness. Yes, there are cliques, but it has not hindered his learning and growth. Highly qualified teachers who are backed up by administration so they can do their jobs without much interference from parents. I’m glad we moved here in 2011. I feel like my son has a good foundation for lifelong learning.

Pros: Experienced Teachers, Robotics Program, TOP notch band/choir/theater, Nice building, Only 1 Jr High feeding to 1 HS, great Advanced Placement CoursesCons: Big School, Competitive, no Orchestra We moved to the area last year, and were looking for a School District that would challenge our oldest son. Expectations are high from AP teachers, but the kids are learning so fast! Extracurriculars galore, but pretty competitive. He is really excelling. :) He’s made friends and found his place in Band and Academic UIL Team. Generally wholesome culture. Tight knit community.

Teacher pay in Friendswood is lower than the area average for public school educators, and there is little incentive for them to further their credentials. This was highly evident in the first grade teacher that my daughter had. She was very inexperienced. When my daughter told me that the class was practicing their writing in shaving cream at the end of first grade, (something appropriate for preschool) and her reading test was incorrectly adminstered, I knew I had to get my child out of there. Sadly, Texas is behind the times and does not seem to get the importance of early proficiency, and value it. Parental involvement at this school is more about the grandiosity of the self-centered parents than the overall well-being of the kids.
