4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageHaving had 2 children at this school I can honestly say, it was tolerable for my typical child whom was in 4th grade when we left but for special needs children I cant warn you enough about this school. We moved into this small town when my son whom is on the spectrum was in preschool. I had to fight tooth and nail to even get them to accommodate him in there preschool program, even though they had a special needs program and room available for him. The preschool teacher whom let me know there was room to accommodate him which was a great teacher was let go at the end of that year. Kindergarten he started out in a class of about 30 students, packed room. They have no issues agreeing to your iep request but when it goes to implementation thats where the issue comes in. Our son came home more than once beat red in the face because the mornings were cool and it warmed up throughout the day and we put a light jacket on him and no one helped him to remove it throughout the day, they tried to force our left handed child to write right handed for there convenience and the final straw came when I was getting him dressed in jeans one morning and he began to panic and cry saying "I cant go pee pee in those pants" alerting me to the fact that he had spent entire days at school with no way to go to the restroom since he couldn't undo zippers or buttons and no one was helping him with this, even though it was clearly marked on his iep for assistance. When I called the school to speak with his teacher about this she didnt know whom was over his iep anymore since the teacher whom was over it had been let go and upon calling the state board of education there only suggestion was to request a facilitated iep which would not have helped in the least since his IEP was good, the school not following it was the issue. We knew our son needed the peer interaction but sadly had to pull him to home schooling as it was too late in the year to open enroll in a neighboring district. thankfully we moved a few months later out of this horrid school system. So watch out for your kiddos should they have an IEP, they are not always followed here. Our little boy whom once loved school would cry and fight us every morning in resistance of going. It has taken us nearly 2 years now in an AMAZING school system to reverse this reaction.Parent Review8y ago - Buckeye Valley Local High School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe school is overall a great place to attend as far as I'm concerned. The school has a great arts program and has great drama and band/choir opportunities. The science department is a bit below what I would hope they would be but the teachers are not bad, they are actually great when it comes to class, just not so much in the explanations to questions the students may need answered. The English teachers are great and they have interesting lesson plans and good material. The math department is full of great teachers and there are tons of opportunities for extra help if needed. The history department is great as far as iv'e seen and a few have made the subject much more interesting than I had believed it to be in the past, and in that I'm grateful. Sports and extracurricular activities are great and the school has won school spirit awards from the state two years in a row now. The student section gets even the most introverted student to take part in the fun, although loud and mildly crazy, which is something the school should be proud of. I know coming into the high school as a brand new student I was concerned for myself in finding friends and meeting new people but the school is full of great people and great opportunities to meet new people. The school has a great Library, an awesome gym and has a 2 tiered cafeteria where the underclassmen sit in the upper tier and the upperclassmen sit in the lower tier, the cafeteria has great options as well. Another fun thing the school offers is Baron games which is basically a field day where the students get to take place in fun activities outside on the football field, some may argue that it's less fun and more stupid but in my opinion it's a lot less "uncool" than they may seem, they can actually be a fun and great way to get out of class and potentially spend time with friends. Also if you aren't put on a team with friends you can go to guidance and switch teams. Overall Buckeye Valley High School is a great place to go to school and if you make it a goal to put grades and school related things first you can do incredibly well, you make the school what you want, if you are into a certain thing, put time and effort into what your'e into because at BV you could do pretty much anything, the place is yours so make of it what you will.Student Review8y ago - Check out schools near 229 Center St.
