5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI live in the Service neighborhood area, but I chose to go to West High for a reason. I am currently a 9th grader. West has the best students in Alaska by a landslide. It has the only IB program, the only Highly Gifted program, and some of the best sports teams in the state. It has so many opportunities for students to take. Through my first semester, my teachers have been great. If something is wrong, just talk to them and they are more than happy to fix it. Most of the students in the neighborhood school program aren't the best learners, or at least aren't motivated to learn. However, motivated students have options for a high level of learning. West is in the Anchorage School District, which has had some problems with funding recently, so some programs may be cut. However, I would still recommend West as the high school of choice in Anchorage. If it is too long of a drive, Service High and South High aren't bad options either.Student Review3w ago

"My husband grew up in his neighborhood and we’ve lived here for two years. There are lots of families who grew up in the neighborhood and people who move but stay in the neighbor. To me, that really says something about how great the area is."

"I have lived in ANC since childhood. I grew up in a different part of town, but was always familiar with all areas as ANC is not too large. The west side of ANC is fabulous! 5 minutes from the airport, 5 minutes from downtown restaurants, coffee shops and shopping and 5 minutes from the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail."

"Popular, older, established, quiet neighborhood in most desired area of Turnagain, old Turnagain north of West Northern Lights Blvd. Near elementary school. Nice walking/biking/cross-country skiing neighborhood next to Coastal Trail. A lot of vegetation for birds and moose. Only 5-10 minutes to downtown and 5-10 minutes to airport. Easy access to to South Anchorage shopping. Close to midtown shopping and eating out while not a midtown neighborhood. New businesses and remodeled shopping centers nearby but far enough away to be purely quiet residential."

"I live here, in Turnagain West, and we have an extremely comfortable situation, enjoying he best weather. The above subject house is in the most desirable location in the neighborhood. That house is perfect for a family with children...big privately fenced yard, ranch style.."
