8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI'm not super fond of the public school system in general, however, NAE has truly exceeded my expectations. I love that it's a smaller school with reasonable class sizes. All of the teachers and support staff seem to know the kids by name, and truly care about their well-being. My son has an IEP, and he's grown immensely, both academically and socially during his time at North Albany Elementary School.Parent Review4mo ago - North Albany Middle School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAwful. Bullying, theft, overcrowded classrooms and several inadequate teachers. The counselor is wonderful, but the handful of terrible teachers, who might have potential if they were provided adequate resources, really ruined our experience there. Some classrooms clock in at nearly 40 students, with only 1 teacher to manage it.Parent Review3y ago - West Albany High School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAll that glitters is not gold. Folks in Albany know about West, but posting this for parents, like us, who are moving here from outside the area and don't know the score. The test scores and graduation rates of this school are incredibly misleading. The way they achieve them is by forcing out any kids who have attendance problems or are doing poorly. Instead of trying to help them, they push them out to the other high school, to the alternative school (no AP or advanced classes or extra curriculars and unlike other districts, diploma is from the alternative school, not West), to their online school, to other districts and to charter online schools. Bullying is rampant and largely unaddressed. Students having mental health problems as a result are seen as the problem, not the students bullying them. The actual quality of instruction is no better than average for Oregon, which isn't saying much. There are good individuals here, but the administration here cares nothing about your child's education or well being. The way they see it your child's job is to perform well, regardless, to keep up the graduation and test score stats. This is all related to property values and local politics - anything that threatens their 'high performing' high school and star principal, including a bullied or struggling student, is a problem to be gotten rid of. We strongly recommend the Corvallis high schools as an alternative - the test scores are similar, but they are much better resourced and achieve those schools by actually helping struggling students succeed.Parent Review2y ago - Check out schools near 1701 Springhill Dr.

"there are nice parks less than 1 mile away. people drive way too fast through the neighborhoods so we've always been worried about our kids playing out front our riding their bikes - especially without sidewalks in our neighborhood. transients and people being released from jail walk our street daily. we've had several items stolen from our vehicles. neighbors are friendly, mostly families. "Great place to raise kids. Schools are good and community really supports everyone. I believe it is a safe place to ride bikes and visit the local parks. Love the river and the downtown shopping area. We also have a carousel that the kids love to ride. The train depot offers tickets north and south to visit Seattle to Los Angeles . It is the best place to live."

"Albany has a lot of parks, some great schools and a fantastic library. There are many things for families to do outdoors and plenty of kid friendly places to go within an hour of Albany. The beach is just over an hour West of us. As with most of the PNW homelessness is a problem and it's more noticeable because this is a small town. Violent crime is low, property crime is higher and that's directly correlated to the drug problems some Albany residents face. This is a great place for involved parents to raise their kids. Just like everywhere else, as long as you're aware of everything your kids are doing, and who their friends are, and there's open communication, this is a wonderful place to put down roots."
