3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageCohen Elementary is a hidden gem. The administration and staff truly care about the well-being of the children. Students at Cohen Elementary don't "fall through the cracks" and they are all known by name. I could not have a picked a better school for my children. 3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI got my daughter away from this school because she wasn't one of the chosen ones. She was bullied, harassed and ignored by students and teachers alike. When I witnessed the offenses or her dad did and we went directly to the administration or teachers directly we were basically ignored and nothing was ever done to help my child or to the ones who were bullying her because they were the athletic stars and teachers pets. I have no doubt in my mind that if I had left my daughter in this school there would have been serious mental issues to deal with later. I moved her to Southside and it's like watching a completely different person, the person I knew was there but just needed a chance to be herself without being teased and bullied.Parent Review14y ago - Cohen Middle School

"Old architecture, rich city history, small town feel, lots of community events, close to many shops/stores, close highway access, quiet neighborhoods"

"Within good distance, could be better though but the area as a whole is boring and small townish. Most things are close but for some they have to drive to the next town/county over to get to work as the job selection here is not the greatest."

"Neighborhood and parks aren't very safe. Shootings and drug busts are pretty common. School district changed a few years ago and has become a lot worse."

"I retired and moved South to a warmer climate and ocean. I used to walk this charming are with best architectural older home that are mostly Georgean and Tutor built in the 20's and 30's. These homes near Boston, DC or NYC would go for 10x their value in Elmira."

"It is not a huge city or anything but it is pretty easy to get just about anything you would need in the area. People for the most part are friendly and helpful, There is not much of a night life around here though:[ It is a nice area for those not wanting a big city life but also not wanting to live way out in the country."
