5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI attended PS66 in 1966 before we moved to Syracuse, New York. I remember being afraid to go to school because if you wore the wrong color, you would have to fight. We lived on Longfellow Avenue which was near the school so I knew I could run home before being beat up. Even though it was a long time ago, I had fond memories of growing up in the Bronx.Other Review1mo ago - Fannie Lou Hamer Middle School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageFannie lou hamer middle school is a social promoting failure of a school. My step son had failed an entire year of academic subjects and had a school average in the thirties...and they promoted him to the next grade, despite being four years behind in his work. Missing homework assignments, not a problem, at fannie lou hamer they promote you anyway.... are you worried about your child not being able to pass state tests, not a problem....fannie lou hamer is the school that socially promotes all students, even if they fail every class, every marking period.... This school is a disgrace and it is unbelievable that they are even allowed to be open! Promoting failing students leads to drop-outs which leads to more people in fights and gangs, in jail and on welfare.... A disgraceful place to send your children and an embarassment to New York State and the guidelines for the Common Core..... Obviously this school doesn't worry about following guiedlines... Have a poor student who can't read, take tests or do homework... send them to Fannie Lou... they will pass them anyway...... DISGRACE !Other Review10y ago - Check out schools near 1425 Longfellow Ave #2N.

What Locals Say about Crotona Park East
- Sania Saunders

"In the heart of this neglected enclave lies a community grappling with neglect, crime, and despair. Dilapidated buildings, their facades marred by time and neglect, line the streets like weary sentinels. Graffiti, a testament to the apathy that pervades, sprawls across crumbling walls, serving as a stark reminder of the urban decay that grips this neighborhood. The air hangs heavy with the scent of decay, mingling with the acrid stench of neglect. Broken windows and boarded-up storefronts speak volumes of the once-thriving businesses that have long since shuttered their doors, leaving behind a void that echoes with the whispers of lost opportunity. Residents, weary and wary, navigate the streets with caution, their eyes darting furtively as they pass by shadowy alleyways where danger lurks like a specter in the night. Crime is a constant companion here, its presence woven into the fabric of daily life, a grim reality that casts a pall over the community. Yet amidst the decay and despair, flickers of resilience can be found. Small pockets of hope spring forth, as neighbors come together to reclaim their streets, one block at a time. Community gardens bloom in defiance of the blight, while grassroots organizations work tirelessly to provide support and resources to those in need. In this bad neighborhood, the struggle is palpable, but so too is the spirit of resilience that refuses to be extinguished. It is a place where hardship and hope collide, where the echoes of the past mingle with the whispers of a future yet to be written."
