7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy grandson is considered autistic or developmentally delayed regarding his comprehension. With that being said, last year he was placed in a classroom with children who either had a physical or mental disability or both. He was able to point out the wrong done to his peers in the classroom by the teacher, another peer or another adult. The admin staffs did not like that, they were tired of some of the tattling (this is an assumption based on how the treatment for my grandson became a bigger issue this school year). When something was happening to him, he was told to be the bigger person but was acknowledged for doing so, that got old because all he would tell us is what occurred and what he did (nothing), even when he was spat at or had a student try to put boogers on him. He is currently in general education but under the special education department, there is a student who has been putting boogers on his chair and has also been being bullied by a group of students in the choir class. My grandson was moved from the class even after being called the ’N’ word and a black monkey. He broke down crying asking why he was being punished. My grandson has distinctive character traits he has yet to deviate from, supposedly the school understands them; I don't think so. The school officials say the same scripted thing to us all the time, they hold him hostage to earlier dates like he hasn't changed or matured or is always lying but the other students are precious innocent beings who he is bullying. The staffs won’t help you get to the bottom of anything and when you try to assist them in dealing with the situation they always say “he didn’t explain the situation to me like he did to you.” Then they look at him and say, “why didn’t you tell me that?” As I mentioned numerous times, you all don’t make him feel comfortable enough in your presence, please call me and I will show up or talk with him over the phone if possible. No call or email until, a week later or days later. There’s so much more I can say. Calling the district hasn’t helped because they refer us right back to the school. It’s a no win situation so we are looking into a program and also considering home schooling at this time. It will be a mental break for the whole family. This has been one of the most stressful encounters I have ever experienced and I am a retired Parole Agent and ex military. The latest thing I can't share right now happened yesterday.
