The teachers and staff are amazing and they really care about the kids they work with. The school works well with children that need a challenge or are advanced learners. "We have lived in the neighborhood for 4 years and know most of our neighbors on first name basis. There are lots of families and multi-generational families. We appreciate the diversity of the neighborhood. It is generally very safe although there are places to avoid due to the occupants. We lock our doors and I don’t let my elementary school son walk alone around the block for safety, but I am a cautious person. It’s a busy, but quiet neighborhood. "

"Lots of traffic on Veterans drive so a fenced in yard is beneficial in this area! Lots of dog walkers in the area so having a friendly, social pup is ideal! "

"I have lived in this neighborhood since since elementary school and now I am living here with my own child. It’s convenient in its distance from downtown, SCSU, and parks, but that comes at a very high cost: vandalism, violence, drug use, loud parties, properties sliding into disrepair... it’s a long list of cons. It’s not uncommon to call the police several times each week to report crime within sight or earshot of our home. A common example of this area: most parents let their kids play outside in the yard when the weather is nice, but in this neighborhood that also means outdoor parties or (at the very least) loud people roaming from house to house. With bass blasting, public urination (all the time), and all kinds of offensive, vulgar, profane language being yelled or screamed at any point (day or night), it is really stressful to let children play outside even in a fenced yard. I truly love some of the older homes in the neighborhood but the student housing makes it very difficult for a family to live safely or comfortably. "

"Good people and great houses. It is easy to to do walks at anytime day or night. You are near to schools. I have a health club two blocks away. You can also do your grocery shopping or eat at restaurants four blocks away."

"The roads are in poor condition. There’s a prostitute across the street & druggies in several houses/Apartments nearby. Many parents let their kids run free during the day 8am-9pm, so don’t expect sleep if you work overnights. "
