3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe 4years I spent at Martinsville High School were the worst 4 years of my life. I absolutely hated going there. I would have been estatic to attend any of the surrounding schools since they have much higher standards for their students than Martinsville ever will. I always taught myself more than this school could ever teach me. I never felt challenged going here and I feel like that will be a problem when I start college. Despite the principle saying he would just let anyone walk across the stage he did just that this year. He is extremely lenient and no better than past administration. The only good thing about this school is a handful of teachers and the band. 4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageTheir way of conferencing is to gather all the teachers together in one room and do it together. What if I wanted to have separate conferences? I wasn't given the option. They are not welcoming as I just particiapted in exhibition night and all the teachers stood together against the lockers & chit chatted & laughed. As parents walked past them to view the exhibition, they had no personality or decency to speak to the parents nor did they welcome us. They barely spoke and that's because us parents said hello to them first. They looked at us like we were strangers. They didn't even make a comment to us like "your child was a great student, your child will be missed, your child came a long ways, etc. Heck they didn't even speak to my child whom they taught for 9 months. The only one that looked presentable was the math teacher Mr. Smith who greeted the parents and spoke on each kid. Overall, I just didn't feel like I got to know these teachers due to lack of correspondance, communication. They hardly ever had homework, school field trips, science projects, nothing.....basically no parent involvement & I don't even think I've ever seen the principle's face!!Parent Review9y ago - Patrick Henry Elementary School

Students are held accountable for their action and learn from mistakes through their positive behavior interventions. High expectations for all and leadership that play an active role in each classroom ensure success for all children- no matter what it takes! "If you have no car it's hard to get around unless you live near the PART Bus route. when my car broke down it was hard getting around. there is always room for improvement. we need more for the kids to do and families "

"This area is quiet and has nice neighbors it has a decent front yard no backyard it's well lit plenty of parking space for a one bedroom apartment complex and is near the highway but not close enough to where u can hear them inside so all and all not to bad for a cheap place to live"

"It is a good place to live. Not too much to do.....but close to Danville, Roanoke, W-S, Greensboro. House prices are cheap."

"Moving into the city from Henry County was a good thing. Uptown has cultural events throughout the year and the neighborhood I live in is quiet. The park is centralized and includes basketball courts, skate board park, disc-golf course and numerous picnic areas and playgrounds. The traffic is moderate--more than the county but nothing compared to the bigger cities. Rania's offers fine dining dowtown and there are numerous chain restaurants available. The area is conveniently located between Danville, Greensboro, and Roanoke. Highway 58 connects us directly to Virginia Beach (it turns into Virginia Beach Boulevard and then into 25th Street at the beach!) and 220 connects us north and south to Roanoke and Greensboro. Great place to live!"

"Martinsville VA is a small town with many positive qualities. Great place to raise children. Schools constantly improving. Cost of living is excellent. Great for retirees and couples raising children. Close knit . Adequate shopping for groceries, pharmacy and clothing. All near-by the neighborhoods. The Forest Park/Mullberry Rd area is the best in town. Several excellent subdivisions just outside city limits. Great outdoor activity area. More sophisticated shopping means going to Greensboro, 48 min away, easy trip or Roanoke, same distance North and easy trip. Local hospital is fine enough physicians of all types so it is not necessary to leave town to see doctor. However, excellent medial facilities for very serious problems close enough to use. Winston Salem Baptist Hospital, Hospitals in Greensboro NC and Roanoke and even Duke are withing striking distance. Have lived here for last 12 years. Lived in Central Florida, Pittsburgh, PA, Columbus Ohio suburbs. This area most like central Florida in political/social views. Only drawback for me. All in all a fine place to live. "
