What Locals Say about Belle Chasse

  • Korey Lewis
"I’ve been here for five years. It’s moderately diverse but overall a great place. Great schools, low crime, just traffic during rush hours and they’re working on it. "

"It’s quite a racist community. Although beautiful, quiet and for the most part, safe, Belle Chasse is mostly comprised by Caucasian people and sadly many are racists and are quick to profile any colored individual. "

"Houses and yards are well kept. Very safe. Nice community with neighborhood sponsored events twice per year. Very close to Downtown New Orleans. Belle Chasee public schools are good and you are very close to a blue ribbon Catholic school in Algiers."

"Quiet neighborhood. Except for fun firework excitement on holidays as Mississippi River/built up levee across the street(no homes). Can see cruise ships passing Can fish in river where clearings are! Wonderful friendly neighbors and SAFE street to live on. Never never had a problem. "

"All of the neighbors I know--all that surround my home are extremely nice and would come to help if I needed them i.e. car needs a charge--didn't have to call anyone, a neighborhood gentleman just came with his charger and vehicle. Garbage can tipped over? A neighbor must have picked all up before I got out to do it!. Very safe quiet street right across from Miss. River. There are a couple to trails to river to walk down to fish. A quick stop/gas station/lunch area at corner of Highway 11--within walking distance!"

"It’s a military base that I live on. We don’t own a home but we are looking in the Belle Chasse area. It’s not far from big city amenities but feels like a small town secluded and peaceful by comparison. The schools are superior to any other surrounding areas. "

"We were stationed in Belle Chasse for a brief time, and I would go back again in a heart beat if I could. I miss the school system, I miss our neighborhood, I miss our house and yard, and I miss being so close to downtown New Orleans but having none of the hassle that went along with living in New Orleans. Belle Chasse is a great place to raise a family and the West Banik has all of the big box stores you could want. We were members of the Audubon zoo and aquarium and used most of the entertainment options in greater New Orleans. BC is close enough that it was convenient! Once you get off of Highway 23 and into the neighborhoods, there is no traffic and little need to worry about your kids playing outside. People are super friendly and pleasant. We never had any trouble. I seriously would go back in a heartbeat if I could!"

"I thought I wouldn't find a neighborhood to compare with Harahan where I lived for 33 years before moving here. Belle Chasse and Springwood in particular are just as nice. Springwood is very safe, extremely kid friendly, clean and just nice overall. I'm told by my Harahan renter that Belle Chasse Schools are #1 and it is where he first looked when he came to N.O. My husband is in heaven, being 10 minutes from his business. Getting to downtown is a snap. The Springwood Community is very comfortable and I enjoy walking the neighborhood, looking at the well kept homes and gardens in particular. I won't move again!"
