"I’ve lived here for 8 years and I love the variety of people that live here. There are farmers, cowboys, astronomers, artists and hula dancers all living together in a small country town. It’s a 20 minute drive to the beach and 20 minutes to the mountains. A picturesque town under the shadow of Mauna Kea overlooking Hapuna beach, where rainbows frequent and a snow capped mountain peaks out every once and a while. It’s definitely God’s country! "

"By car only. No bus I’ve seen. Easy to get to everything I need and do also close to waktaloa and Kona without living there. Not sure I’ll stay for ever but can’t afford to live here. No condo or reasonable rents"

"I was born and raised here in Waimea. The name in itself and surrounding beauty, along with perfect weather makes it all feel like home. We’re lucky to be living in paradise."

"The best part of Kamuela. A nice cool climate, you may even like a fireplace at evening, yet all within half an hour drive to the most beautiful beaches and large luxury Hotels. Ideal for walking and hiking in green meadows. An undiscovered paradise for living well. The landscape compares to the southern part of Germany."

"Upcountry Hawaii. Ranching, education and family predominates, but there is science, farming, trades, sustainable awareness, music, art and tourism industries too. Do not expect tropical paradise weather or landscape. Climate varies hugely from one end of town to the other. Misty, wet and cool on the eastside (wetside), Warm and VERY dry on the westside. Perfect in the middle! Never gets very hot in Waimea (Kamuela). Small town feel, but the cross island road that can jam up traffic in the afternoons. Other times it gets so quiet you can hear the cows moo on the hills (pu'u) behind the town. Several good private schools from K to grade 12. Good performance art at local theaters (Kihilo and Parker School). SlackKey Guitar, singing, hula, etc. Home to two world class telescopes. Good public library, a brewery, bike shop, surf shop, bakery, good food stores, newer private hospital. Great farmers markets. (this is the salad bowl of Hawaii). 15 minutes to world best beaches and World class resorts of the Kohala Coast."
