Mitzi Shore, Famed Owner of The Comedy Store, Lists Long-Time Los Angeles Home For $5.8 Million

As the famed owner of The Comedy Store on LA’s Sunset Strip, Mitzi Shore is known by many in the funny business as the maker and breaker of comedy careers. From the 1970s to the 1990s, Mitzi nurtured the budding starts of many well-known comedians and late night talk show hosts, including David Letterman, Jay Leno, Jim Carrey, Chris Rock, Chelsea Handler, Richard Pryor, and Robin Williams. Oh, and we should also mention that one of her sons is comedian Pauly Shore.

Now, it seems the octogenarian may be looking to cut back. Mitzi’s has already handed off the day-to-day management of her famous comedy club to her sons — which doesn’t seem like it’s all it’s cracked up to be, considering it’s no laughing matter when lawsuits are filed. But maybe she’ll catch a break when it comes to downsizing in real estate?

Our sources tell us that Mitiz has listed her long-time, 5,448-square-foot home in Los Angeles for $5.8 million. This is the first time that the legendary Old Hollywood estate has been on the market since Mitzi bought it 40 years ago.

Built in 1936, this ivy-covered European Villa includes five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and sits on one of the largest flat lots in the area — a rare and desirable asset for homes located in the Hollywood Hills. While loaded with character and charm on the outside, the home will need a lot of TLC on the inside. According to the listing description, this home needs “to be fully restored/rebuilt.”

It’s the perfect place for someone who loves a good remodeling project, AND wants to own a piece of comedy history.
