Paging Franck! The classic 1925 Colonial, known for its starring role in the hit 1991 film Father of the Bride and its sequel, Father of the Bride Part II, is on the market for $1.998 million, and we’d certainly love to catch the bouquet for this one. Measuring 4,397 square feet, the four-bed, four-bath home for sale in Alhambra, CA, served as home base for George and Nina Banks (played perfectly by Steve Martin and Diane Keaton). The on-screen couple sent their daughter, Annie (a young Kimberly Williams-Paisley), down the aisle in the home’s backyard.
A grand entry welcomes guests, opening into an elegant living room, a large formal dining room, and a walnut-paneled den/study. A bright and cheery sunroom features a decorative Batchelder fountain, while the gourmet kitchen has Thermador appliances and a 90-bottle wine refrigerator. With high arches, hardwood floors, crown moldings, and custom cabinetry, the home is elegant and charming. A spacious basement provides lots of storage space, as does the three-car garage.
Step outside the kitchen’s French doors into the expansive backyard: It may have been big enough to host a wedding, but hanging out for a cookout with the family would be a perfect activity too. Located on a classic suburban, tree-lined street, the house is the perfect place for any family to create their own memories. “The house is gorgeous, great character home, great family home,” the listing agent, Ann Gluck of COMPASS, told ABC News. “To have all of that and a starring role in such a well-loved film is icing on the cake!”
In reality, two different homes served as the background for the classic film. Exterior scenes of the home’s facade generally used a different Colonial property in nearby Pasadena, CA (spot it in our infographic of favorite movie homes!). But if you feel like playing a little one-on-one, then you’ve come to the right place: The Alhambra house still has its original basketball court and hoop where George and Annie went head-to-head the night she told her dad she was getting married. And that sounds like a slam-dunk!
