Although our economy here in the area is doing well as compared to the rest of the States, the lending situation is affecting us now and will continue to do so for quite a while, in my opinion. Basically, there is no money to lend for businesses to grow. Businesses are ready to grow but unless they have the cash they cannot move forward. Even the most educated economists in our country have differing opinions on when this particular situation will change. I will continue to research and post any new develpments in the area. ... more

I realize your question was asked back in 2009. But for the sake of others wondering about the same thing in this wonderful neighborhood, here are some of the answers:

The HOA in Hollywood Park is optional. Currently the dues are $20.00. These dues help fund a variety of community events throughout the year. Participation in those events is not always dependent on whether or not you've paid the dues.

The Voigt Center includes community amenities including a large playground, tennis courts, a covered picnic area, and a pool area that is home to the Hollywood Park Hammerheads swim team. The pool can be accessed by residents with the purchase of a season pass available at City Hall.

There are no set jogging trails, however, with the abundance of trees and wide streets, many use the streets of Hollywood Park to run, walk, or bike.

Hollywood Park does have its own Fire & Police Departments as well.

If you are a first-time property buyer you are experiencing what is called "buyer's remorrse. It is normal to feel panic after your offer is accepted. Do you have a realtor helping you with the transaction? If so, I would ask them for their honest opinion about East Austin.

Both are competitive. Ask for a discount due to new home purchase. Sometimes they can give you 10%. Should take a coupon, but who knows then they have an extra coupon around. You can also try CC carpet or Builder Discount Carpet

Dear Rick,

I am a real estate agent for United Country Cason Real Estate and have lived in Mineral Wells since 1999. We are currently in an upswing in our area. Although real estate is slow, it is steady and is starting a slow increase. This is expected to continue due to the oil and gas boom we are experiencing. We have had several rigging companies move into town and are now seeing an increase in new home building and sales. If you can give me the address of the property you have been offered, I may be able to tell you some information about the building.

We had a Super Wal-Mart come in about three years ago and since then, other retail businesses have begun to build here. We now have a Walgreens, Chili's, Tractor Supply and two small strip malls being built next to Wal-Mart. There is another hotel (Holiday Inn Express) that just recently bought some property at the eastern edge of Mineral Wells. We also have a Ramada, Best Western and a couple of smaller hotels. A study was done stating the we could use an additional 400 rooms for the town. It is hard sometimes to get reservations without being on a waiting list, especially during the summer.

Is the downtown area vibrant enough to be worth a retail business venture? It would depend on what type of business it is going to be. Currently, we have a shipping station, horse supply store, police department, barbershop, tax office extension for the county, church, two office supply stores, a skateboard shop, couple of clothing stores and several antique shops on the main highway (north and south 281) into and out of town. Mineral Wells is not big, but we are busy. If you have more questions, please let me know. I'll be happy to answer them for you. My e-mail address is

Houston often surprises the newcomer with its friendliness and sophistication. The Galleria serves as the home of Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom's, and an ice rink open to the public. A number of localized shopping areas are known for antiques (the Heights and Montrose), and boutiques range from 50s clothing to imported saris. Both Whole Foods Market and Central Market offer organic foods, and there are several small farmers' markets on Saturdays around the city. Houston is a place where restaurants test their new concepts since a very high percentage of Houstonians eat out frequently. ... more
