You may wish to consider some of the managed luxury rental complexes in the downtown area of Stamford such as: Avalon Greyrock, Parc Grove, Morgan Manor, or Glenview House. They sometimes offer 6 month leases but you will usually pay a bit more per month than if you were to sign a yearly lease.

I suggest "googling" them to find out more information about pricing, availability, and the amenities they offer.

The CCR's are the guidleine, what ever they say.

As to why the HOA would do that:
They probably have a covenant that THEY have to abide, which says that only a certain number of unit may be rentals. If that is the case, then they are between a rock and a hard place because they didn't share this with the residents.

In general, it is the landlord. However, there is an agency in Stamford that collects both from landlord and rentors. I would be cautious in using that broker. You will just be paying additional money. ... more

I would first go to www.city-data.com to check on demographics for Stamford neighborhoods as Realtors aren't allowed to recommend areas (it's called "steering" and is illegal).

If you are working with an agent, have them tailor your home search to rentals or lease option (rent-to-own) properties. Pick the properties that appeal to you the most and have your agent set up showing appointments for when you'll be in town.
