It depends on what work needs to be done. Personally, if it's just an "ugly house" - ie needs a little paint, some new flooring, windows, even a new roof, I would definitely buy the cheaper one. If it's got a major problem such as a cracked slab, I wouldn't touch it. I find that you can save a lot of money through sweat equity or even through hiring out for small jobs, as compared to buying a turnkey house. But I'd encourage any future home buyer to follow his or her own heart. Not everyone is comfortable with repairs and that's okay too. Great question! :) ... more

Well, you could try advertising online or on TV. Lots of homes need metal gates, so you would have a large customer base wherever there are people. In fact, I am looking to replace my pool gate with something that is more childproof.
