Realtors can't speak on the safety of areas, but you can check with the nearest police precinct on crime stats for the area. Hopefully you'll get some responses from non-realtors! Another option is just talking to neighbors who already live in the area. ... more

Consider calling the Richmond Police department. They will be able to provide you with information regarding crime in the area and crime statistics.

There are several areas that would provide the living experience you suggested. There is historic Churchill , The Fan, Forest Hill area, Oregon Hill, Byrd Park area, Bainbridge is a new and upcomming area where the city plans to build around the river. Jackson Ward is a great area of town & is going through lots of renovation right now. As for safety, how safe you would or wouldn't feel in an area is subjective - for example, an area I may feel is safe you may not feel is safe, etc. I would certainly suggest that you visit the area at different times of the day and night to get a feel for how you would feel there and to see the activity going on in the area (people out walking, etc). With many of my buyers who have concerns about safety, I have also directed them to call the police and talk to them about the different neighborhoods and what crime, if any, is in in those neighborhoods. If you would like to see any properties in Jackson Ward or any of the other areas in the VCU area, just let me know. I sell in the city, and live in the city, and would be very happy to show you anything in those areas. ... more
