Novato is home to Olompali State Park, a historic Native American site that once even was home to the Grateful Dead in the 1960s. D.O.G.B.O.N.E. Park, along Novato Boulevard is open year-round and offers many amenities to all dogs, from the pampered pooch to mangy mutt. Novato's children have amazingchoices in recreational parks as well. From the newly renovated Arroyo Avici park, complete with interactive fountain, to the popular Pioneer Park and Miwok Park. Miwok Park also features a Native American museum, with many cultural and educational programs about the Miwok Tribe, which once inhabited much of Marin County. Of course, the crown jewel of Novato parks is Stafford Lake Park, featuring a terrific municipal golf course, a 6-acre lake and lots of hiking/walking trails and picnic tables. Stafford Lake Park is also the site of the annual Labor Day at the Lake celebration with a community-wide picnic and fireworks at dusk.
