Hi Jen,

First Question: Do you have any accounts currently in collections? If the answer is yes, then you would need to settle with any collection agencies or creditors that have filed derogatory marks on your report.

If you havent checked out your credit report then bear in mind that under federal law, you are entitled to receive (1) free credit report from each of the (3) credit reporting agencies--Experian, Transunion, and Equifax.

Go to: www.annualcreditreport.com and pull one (you only need 1 for now, don't get all 3, otherwise you'll have to wait an entire year before you can get a free one).

Now if you dont see any accounts in collection (perhaps some charge off accounts,) one of your best bets is to sign up to www.capitalone.com. They'll provide you with at least a $300 (or $500 dollar) line of credit assuming you don't have any recent judgements (especially a bankruptcy) on your report.

You'll have to start from the bottom up in order to improve your score.

For a good estimate of where you score stands (also free) check out: creditkarma.com

You'll need to improve your credit score (it can take from months to years, depending on whats on your report) in order to get any loans from a local credit union.

Good Luck with everything.
