The earliest that anyone would know, if when a NOD, (Notice of Delinquency) was filed; which is the first step in the Foreclosure process.
There are probably 2-3 times as many homeowners who are "underwater" and need help.
Ask a Realtor how many Shortsales and REO's are LISTED, and you could estimate that the total number of "distressed" families is 3-4 times those listings.
This should be good enough for your purposes. Especially since those numbers are constantly changing.

My unequivocal answer to that is The Bread Basket Deli in Oak Park on Greenfield. They cook up their own corned beef and serve it on a crusty rye bread. Can't be beat.
