Salem is a very family oriented city. It is probably one of the bigger complaints by the singles that live here. There are a lot of things that are here locally, and we are also centered in the valley for easy access to HooDoo and the autobahn sledding runs, the coast, nearby rivers for great swimming, rafting, fishing, and Portland which has OMSI, etc.

As a parent I appreciate that we have little traffic here (although that is relative). I like that I rarely have to drive more than 15 minutes to get my kids to their activities.

The biggest issue in Salem for parents is the schools. They have been hit really hard with budget cuts and classroom sizes are really large. I don't know the impact down in Medford but it has been hard up here.

The Banks, as a rule, require you to be represented by a Realtor; for their sake as much as yours; they do not want to get in the middle of an Escrow, and have it fall apart. And since they are paying the commissions of both Agents, they can do that.

Agents are not allowed to give this information out, so an area is not put in a blite location. Portland maps is facts put in by local police and other departments and these are open to the public.

As long as you are looknig at only the home per square foot and not including the land you are looking at abiout $75-79 a foot- if you are looking on line at the price per sq foot it will mess you up totally. It takes the land and house and divides the total price by sq feet - so it will just not make sense! ... more

The longer answer depends. Is your husband the primary wage earner? Can you put the home and loan strictly in his name?
If you are the primary wage earner, or the home you hope to buy requires both incomes you may qualify for an FHA loan, depending on your other scores. There are 3 scores and lenders use the middle score from the lowest borrower. If 578 is your low score, your other scores may qualify you for some programs or you may take some time to address some issues and improve your score.
So, you might get approved a couple different ways depending on several factors. I would encourage you to speak to a good local mortgage lender.
