The simple answer is "no". California has winter just like everyone else. It's just that our winter is very mild in comparison. In the winter the water temp drops into the 50's in comparision to the summer when the water is in the 60's. The best beach months are May - September with some good days in March, April and October. In Southern California, we rarely see temps below 50 in the winter at the beach and in good beach months temps are usually in the 80's. ... more

Manhattan Beach is ideally located.. less then 4 miles from the airport but no airport noise. One of the reasons for the popularity of Manhattan Beach is that it is close to the LAX and to the Westside financial center in Century City and just 35 minutes from downtown Los Angeles. North of the Boulevard in Manhattan Heights there are both 50x150 lots west of Redondo Ave. and 50x100 lots east of Redondo Ave. in Liberty Village. That's a great question. Truthfully there may not be any difference between them in Manhattan Beach or nearby Beach Cities. As the area is completely built out most new homes can only be built on properties where an existing home must be torn down. In these situations it is the land that has all the value not the structure. Often the home that is torn down is small and may be in good condition needing only some minor repairs. However the land is so valuable that builders often out bid first time buyers who are looking for a fixer.
Sellers like selling to builders as they can sell the properties "as is" and make no repairs or warranties about condition.

While you can't beat the beach for having fun.. Manhattan Beach has two large Parks. Live Oak is the place for softball and tennis. There is also a place for little kids to play and a dog run for pups to meet new friends. Polliwog park has a lovely lake and a playground with lots of things to do for the under 5 crowd. Polliwog also has one of the original homes built in Manhattan Beach when the entire city was mostly giant sand dunes..... and speaking of sand dunes.. Sand Dune Park off Bell Ave has one of the last remaining sand dunes in the city. If you are looking for a great workout try climbing the dune a few times. ... more

Manhattan Beach has seen prices rise consistently over the years. A buyer should expect to pay about $750,00 for an entry level property in east Manhattan Beach.. Sometimes there are a few on Manhattan Beach Blvd or Artesia that are slightly less expensive. If you are looking for a unit west of Sepulveda then you will be looking at prices starting around $900,000 for one on Manhattan Beach Blvd and about $1,250,000 for one slightly closer to the water or with an ocean view. ... more

The Manhattan Beach tree section is truly a lovely neighborhood. The area maintains a countryside feel as all streets have lots of trees and over the years the residents have rejected the idea of sidewalks to keep that rural flavor. Manhattan Beach is one of the best beaches in Southern California. The beach is very wide and the sand is wonderful. In fact if you have been to Waikiki then you have walked on Manhattan Beach sand. When Waikiki was first developed the beach area had little sand and was rather rocky.. so the developers went searching for sand on the mainland. They decided that Manhattan Beach had the best sand and for most of the 1920's the sand from Manhattan beach was shipped to Waikiki. ... more

Prices vary widely depending on how close to the beach the property is located. In east Manhattan Beach an older 4 bedroom home on a 50x150 lot will start around $1,400,000 and go up to $2,500,000 for new construction. In the Hill section an older home with a view on a large lot would be priced over $3,000,000. In the tree section you might find an older home around 2500 sqft around $1,700,000. If you are looking on the Strand or a full lot on a walkstreet with a view you would be have to pay over $4,000,000 . ... more
