It depends on how much you want to spend and what you mean by "quality of life". There are many good areas and neighborhoods. The near west neighborhoods like Westmoorland and Sunset Village have nice older homes that typically sell for $200,000 to $300,000. If you like larger more prestigious areas ($500,000+), consider Blackhawk in Middleton, Bishops Bay, or Noll Valley. If you are looking for a good investment I would take a hard look at the east corridor as many of the areas are "in transition" right now with redevelopment projects. Many of the suburbs such as Waunakee, Sun Prairie, Oregon, Middleton, etc can offer a little more relaxed community, but still within 10-20 minutes of downtown. ... more
