Hey Sam!

Places close to LSU that would be similar I would say Southdowns area. I could email you some homes around there. Most homes are walking distance to shopping, restaurants and bars.
Downtown BR also has a few homes and condos for sale or lease that might interest you.

Let me know if you have any questions.

The Irish Channel is current red-hot, so-to-speak. Blocks that are close to the river are experiencing renovations and price appreciations that was only found closer to Magazine street just 18-24 months ago. We are in a string seller's market in New Orleans Historic core, and the Irish Channel is no exception

River Garden is a definite success, a huge improvement over the St Thomas projects and managed by an excellent local company, HRI Properties. They have had some crime issues previously (unfortunately many of our historic areas suffer from social ills) but the management is very responsive and in 2012 installed a private security patrol and closed circuit TV system that rivals or exceeds private security districts (paid through tax assessments in the Garden District, Uptown, Audubon, etc.)

Buyers in River Garden are attracted to low-maintenance and high-quality new construction. Some folks don't like the 'planned' feel of it and prefer the more organic historic areas like the Irish Channel.

It's all good - something for everyone in this area. So overall, I'd say both areas play off of each other to their mutual benefit.

Good luck on your home search!

(Disclosure - I have personally lived in the Irish Channel for over 10 years, walking distance to River Garden and we love it. I have represented HRI at River Garden and represented many loyal buyers and sellers in both neighborhoods)

Maybe I missed something, but there is no info on a property provided to research for you. If you can provide an address, I'm sure many of us would be happy to pull up some info.

In the meantime here's a tip:
You can find the county's comptrollers office online and many times you can run a search using the address or homeowners names. You will be able to access info on liens, etc. there.

Visit a neighborhood several times to get a sense of belonging. Check out area statistics; real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase, or not, in specific neighborhoods; for any crime concerns, do contact/visit the local authorities and ask all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand; oftentimes opinions are subjective, what may be good for one is not necessarily the case for another. ... more

For the most part, Masters Point did very well in Katrina. Some homes did have some water, but the levy around the subdivision protected it, from the direction the storm came in.
