Propsition 8 that passed in 1978, amended the Propsition 13 to reflect the decline in value of your property.When and if the market value of the previous reduced assement (Prop. 8) increases above its Prop. 13 factored base year value, the Assessor will once again enroll its Prop. 13 that factored bas year value. Prop. 8 can change from year to year and its reductions are temporarily to recognize the fact that the current market vae for the current market value of a property fell below its current the base value of the Propesition 13. Every county has different dateline for filling the request for "Decline in Market Value"This form can be download online from assessor office website of the county you are residing. I actually lived in Lakewood for a short stint and if I recall it was in the 60's. Mainly because of governance issues. They do however fall under the Long Beach Unified School District and have quite an extensive busing program.

Back in the day - Lakewood was extremely exclusive, and although it has retained a high Situs; it is quickly losing ground in the "exclusivity" department. The High School is really lacking in lustre as well.

Lakewood has named all of their parks after war veterans and heros. The city was founded just after WWII as the first master planned community in California. The parks are well maintained and have running trails and walking trails for all age levels. The city was named as one of the best sports towns by Sports Illustrated and has a fantastic park system for playing baseball and basketball. ... more

This town has fantastic 4th of July parties and is one of the only cities within all of Los Angeles county that allows legal fireworks on the 4th of July.
