Bill, I appreciate your concern in regards to areas that you would consider to be safer than others. As realtors, we are not in the position to tell you what is safe and what is not safe. What may be safe to one individual, might be unsafe to another individual. I advise that you do your own due diligence in regards to safety concerns. However, I can suggest a few websties that will help you in your research:

http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/neighborhoods/crime-rates/

If you have any other questions or thoughts, feel free to email me.

Hi Alton - I guess you're still in the rental market huh? Please contact me, I'd be glad to show you this apartment and others in the neighborhood. As you know, I do live right around the corner. Realtors cannot steer any toward or away from any specific neighborhood, so your best bet is to contact the local precinct or one of the sites on the web which shows you crime statistics.

Please contact me - I'm still interested in finding you a new home.

Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods; therefore, for any safety concerns, contact the local police department with all your questions, hear all firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area, do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors, etc....

Hi Jcmama2two! I really like Prospect Street near Palisade, there are some beautiful homes and it's easy walking distance to bus transportation and schools. You should also look at Sherman Place, it's a great street near shops, busses and schools as well.

Visit greatschools.com and also call the local precinct if you're looking for safety information. I own a home in the Heights and I really like the area.

Please don't hesitate to reach me if I can be of help to you.

Hi Looking to move. The Heights section of Jersey City is a great urban residential neighborhood where your money goes a long way in comparisson to the surronding neighrborhoods. In general the area that you describe is great! It offers urban living conveniences like walking to transportation and shops with a nice residential setting. Some blocks are nicer than others like anywhere but overall this is a great community that has been growing and getting better every year.
I personally decided to invest in this neighborhood and purchased a condo two years ago on Sherman Place where I lived. I loved the neighborhood, the parks, neighbors and trees and was never more than a 5 minute drive to Hoboken.

If you want some help, you might want to work with a realtor who knows this town well to guide you to better find what you're looking for. Also, if you're concerned about safety, it's always a good idea to contact the local police department to ask for their input.

I find that most people who give negative feedback don't know the area very well themselves and are just speaking hear-say.

Hope this helps! Don't hesitate to reach me if you need any other information.

Amy,

The best resource to answer this question is the Jersey City Police Department. There is actually a police station near this property on Communipaw Avenue. They can provide you with a crime report for the area and answer your questions and concerns. Here is a link to the Jersey City Police Department website.

Shirish,

I recommend you speak with the Jersey City Police Department for a crime report in that area. You can always find crime reports on Google if you search around.

Here is the JCPD website.

You also may want to walk the area at night if you are concerned.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Sincerely,

Gabriella answered:
Im a young female and I just bought a condo in this area. Every day I walk 20 minutes to and from the Grove St path alone and I have never felt in danger. My block is nice while the surrounding area looks a little more shady. I think the area is going to get better, and in reality, crime can happen anywhere, there are incidences in downtown all the time and that is the "nice" area.

My advice would be to visit the particular block your interested in at different times to get a feel for it. If everyone took the attitude of fear, places like Hoboken and Downtown JC would still be a wasteland instead of the exclusive places they are now.

Dear Chris,
You would be well served to call the local police department and ask for the crime statistics for that area. That can give you a good feel for the area. Also, search the website of the local paper for any mention of crimes in that area.
