Children are a protected class. I recently sold a nice home in Becketts Ridge to a young family and they like living there. I have also shown some of the other properties such as Ashbury which is closer to Mebane but still in Orange County. As to banks, Hillsborough is a small town but they have a Suntrust and a Bank of America. Bank of America is on Churton Street which is their Main Street where they have a few restaurants and a coffee shop. It is a very small town. If I can help you further please let me know. I have sold properties in Orange and Alamance Counties and have listings in both those areas. My daughter graduated from Eastern in Alamance County.

I can give you the general impression by many people of schools in the local districts, though you should also check the school websites.

The best are Chapel Hill Carrboro schools
Next are the Orange schools
As a generalization, Alamance, Chatham and Durham schools aren't that great, though it depends on the particular school and the teacher.

Northern Chatham, the area closer to Chapel Hill has oood schools, one of them is a charter school, supposed to be quite good.

School taxes are very high in Chapel Hill/Carrboro. Lower in the other areas.

A lot depends on what your child needs. My daughter went to a charter school that fell apart, then she went to Carolina Friends School in Durham. It was the right school for her, wrong school for my son. You have to know what your child needs, the right atmosphere, and consider whether s/he has any learning disabilities.

Don't know if this has been helpful or not. Feel free to contact me for more specific info.

I live here in Durham and am a local Realtor. I know the area well and would like to help you, but I do not really understand your question. Are you looking to buy or rent. What do you mean, "Goes by your income"

Feel free to contact me directly through my profile information here on Trulia, Perhaps if we spoke you could explain to me what you are looking for.

Transitional generally means a very open floor plan. Maybe not so many formal "rooms", but with all of the rooms connected into one more flowing space.

Hi Alice,

The difference is that in a condo, you do not own the land that it sits on or the exterior of the building. It's basically like buying the interior of an apartment. In a townhome situation, you actually own the land it sits on and usually a stip of land front and back (although quite small). You also own the exteriors of the townhome and a portion between side by side units. HOA's typically take care of exterior maintenance & yard work on both types of properties.

Please let me know if I can help you further.

Hi again Alice,

Yes, there are a few condos in Hillsborough and there are some townhomes too. I actually live in Hillsborough myself (and in a townhome) and would be happy to help you. The condos that are here are quite small (approx. 1000 feet) but are priced under $100K. Depending on your budget, you could get a brand new townhome with at least a one car garage for in the $150-$165K range and there are a few townhomes larger than that in Hillsborough that come in up to $215K. The higher priced ones have approximately 2200-2400 square feet and two car garages.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi Anne
There are currently 4 active on Summit, one is conting. on the close of another home. All the active ones are being sold by their owners, not any foreclosures I could see. Sometimes this happens where you will see 2 or 3 or more home for sale very near each other, without knowing each persons motivation it's sometimes hard to assetain why, I don't see any problem with that area in general.

Stanton Homes answered:
Hillsborough is a very pretty, desirable area for homeowners commuting to Durham. Only 14 miles west of Durham, Hillsborough is accessible by a straight shot on I-85, which makes it very easy to get to. The downtown area has a terrific reputation for shops and original homes and streets.

If you look at homes sold recently in the area, you'll see that the price per square foot can be quite high - as everything else, it depends on the neighborhood, area, age of home, and many other factors. There are new homes in the mid to upper $200s, all the way up to some in the 1.5mil range.
