I live in Sherborn, which is the "sister" town to Dover. We share a school system, which is ranked #1 in the state by Boston Magazine. They're both lovely small peaceful suburbs that feel very wooded. However, Dover, Sherborn, and Weston lack much of a town center per se. Lexington has more of a defined, walkable center, as does Concord. You might also consider towns such as Holliston & Hopkinton, which both have very well rated school systems, lots of activities for kids, and are within an hour to Boston. They have small but cute town centers. I like Holliston's better - with a children's park, tennis courts, artist lofts, a general store, a few boutiques, a cafe, and a little lake you can walk to. You can find lots of info about the Boston suburbs at our blog: and website

The house you asked about in Dover was temporarily taken off the market. It needs extensive remodeling as well as a new septic system.

Between Dover and Weston (Rtes 20/128) it will take you less than a half hour, maybe 25 mins. Unless, of course, it is peak traffic time! Then it could be 40 mins.

Are you currently working with an agent to buy a home? Do you have to sell to buy?

Happy to help in any way I can! Feel free to call or email with questions (as buyer's agent, by the way, ther is no fee to you!)

If you have issues with your agent, then you should probably sit and discuss them first. Are there specific concerns you have with their efforts to date? Anything you specifically would like a "new" agent to do differently?
If not, then its probably not your agent and moving your listing around from agent to agent can work against the sale of your home.

I am not sure what the average days on market are in Dover, the best place to get that info is a local realtor that is familiar with the market in your area. As for when to start thinking about accepting lower offers, one of the indicators will be how many showings you are having at your current listing price. The general rule of thumb I use for my clients is that if there are very little or no showings in a two week period then it's time to drop the price. The price drop doesn't have to be extreme, sometimes it just takes bringing it down to the next lower price level so that buyers who say "I'm not going over x amount" now see your property as being in their price range . If you are still having plenty of showings then just hang in there you may still find someone who is willing to pay your price. ... more
