I am a local realtor who has lived in Teaneck for the past 29 years and raised four kids in the schools. I can help you find a rental that would be suitable, depending on how much you are willing to pay and how much space you need for you and your son. I am assuming he will be going to the Community School by what you said in your question, and certainly would be happy to help you relocate to our lovely community "on the other side of the bridge!"
My best,
Barbara Ostroth

Glen Rock is a real small town and there really are very little distinctions between the areas although some people complain about the smell of baking cookies at the Nabisco plant on 208 :)
there are a couple of small areas that flood and with 2 railroad tracks passing through some houses are a bit noisy as a result
Oakland is kind of similar - couple of areas especially on the west side of town are real close to the river and with Rte 287 passing through the center of town some noise is inevitable Apart from that its a beautiful town

James Lockard answered:
Having lived in Allendale for over 45 years in two different houses on opposite ends of town, I would be hard pressed to pick "the nicer areas" without knowing your preferences. Some people may not like the main roads but Franklin Tpke has some very old and beautiful stately colonial homes. Some of the first homes built as a community in Allendale along new street and Mallison Ave are smaller but provide the luxury of being within walking distance to the schools and town and mass transit. The newer developed areas of San Jancito have larger lot sizes and bigger homes. Allendale has many areas that appeal to many different people. If you wish to know more about the town I would be happy to give you a tour and discuss the real estate of Allendale.

Peter J Rogers answered:
In a number of towns like Ridgewood, Teaneck, Montclair and so on many of the houses were built before 1930 so there is normally no obstacle to buying an older house. In fact they were often better built than those built today.
.There is not usually any difficulty in obtaining finance either.
