In order to find an old, craftsman style house, you would want to focus on the Oleander/ Westchester area. This area has awesome older homes, many of which have been remodeled and updated.
The other option is the NE section of Bakersfield. To be honest, your price range will determine which area to focus on more!

There are good homes in all parts of Bakersfield but most people with children seem to prefer the northwest and southwest. Those areas have newer schools and the neighborhoods are mostly under 20 years old. The majority of the development for these areas has been done in the last 15 years. The rents for these areas are higher. As to the issue of unemployment....no one knows for sure whether it is going down. What I do know is that a lot of people who were on unemployment have either run out of time and can no longer collect or they have elected to take lesser jobs so that they could have a regular paycheck again. If you listen the the news they try to paint a brighter picture than it really is but I am sure it is the same here as anywhere else in our country...people are struggling and not taking their jobs for granted. Everyday they have a job to go to, they are appreciative. Homes are selling very well right now as the interest rate is low and the prices are still reasonable. That is an interesting question and the only answer I can think of at this time is cost. There are some areas that do block wall fencing, and usually it is based on the subdivision plans. Custom built home areas you will find more variations of fencing types. I hope this helps, and let me know if you are looking at buying a home in the near future.
Depends on your own personal financial conditions and your mortgage terms available in the market at the time that you are buying. Lenders also look at your employment history and how much of your borrowing power you are using in your credit cards. Try to be at 8 percent or less of your credit limit. Best advice contact a mortgage broker, they have access to many banks and different programs.
No, it is not possible to get a mortgage with a 580 FICO. Your credit score indicates an unwillingness to pay your bills (that is why you have collection accounts).

Most of the lenders that I know, prefer to have the inspection cleared, before they send out the appraiser. After all, why bother spending the money on the appraiser, if you decide that you no longer want the home based on the appraisal?... more
The fact is that no one can predict the real estate market. New construction is always a higher price per sq. ft. because it is brand new!! (just like buying a new car) In new construction, you can choose interior options instead of dealing with whatever a resale house has to offer you.
As for the appraisal process, you cannot guarantee the new construction will appraise. Just because they offer other floor plans, appraisers are human and their opinions sometimes vary. New construction has a much better chance of appraising for list price but as a Realtor who works directly with a builder, it's not guaranteed!!!
There is not one person that can tell you what the market will be like in 5 years... heck, at this point we can't even predict it for the next few months!!! You have to be sure when you buy a home you buy it for a good market value price FOR TODAY'S MARKET. That's all you can do!

Typically on new construction the Builder passes on title, escrow, and transfer fees to the Buyer. The builder and/or their escrow company should provide these to you. The fees vary by State, County and City.... more
It really depends on a number of issues.....are they on slab foundation that also needs to be removed, are there septic vaults involved, is there wiring and plumbing that needs to be addressed....it is not as simple as cost. I have done some research to attempt to answer your question. According to Google, the telephone prefix for the purported property manager is in New York. Secondly, I could not find a real estate agent in California with the name of Jaime S Guandique. I also Googled him, found a Facebook page and one other person by that name in Linked In. No mention of being in real estate. I then Googled the address on "Merton" in Bakersfield. Found nothing but I did find 5312 Menton in Bakersfield and looked that up for you. That house is presently listed for sale as a short sale. If you wish more information, please contact me. I would be very careful since there are have been many instances where unauthorized persons have listed homes for rent, taken money from the renter, renter moves in and then the REAL owner shows up. Not sure if this is the case, but there have been repeated news stories about this in the last few years.
