Hello Tom. I do not specialize in Property Mangement, but I have many colleagues and friends that have rental properties around downtown Asheville. If you plan to use a property management firm they should be able to advise you on what rent you should charge. I know of several good property management companies that I would recommend if you are interested, just send me an email. However, if you plan to manage it yourself- I would suggest that you look at Craigslist and see what other landlords are asking to rent in the same area. There are going to be many factors for you to consider that relate to your own personal situation- mortgage payments, taxes, insurance, replacement costs, and so on. That being said, I have a few friends that are trying to rent their properties for $2,000-$2,500 a month and are having a hard time finding a tenant. The link to Craiglist is below- that should help you determine a rental price.
Good luck,
Bonnie Gilbert
