Powellhurst-Gilbert is a neighborhood in the Southeast section of Portland, Oregon. It borders the neighborhoods of Montavilla, Hazelwood, and Mill Park on the north, Centennial on the east, Pleasant Valley on the east and south, and Lents and South Tabor on the west.

According to the Neighborhood Plan,[1] the neighborhood is named after two of its schools: Powellhurst (named in the 1920s after 1850s settler Jackson Powell) and Gilbert (named after William M. Gilbert, an Indiana emigrant who settled in the area c. 1890). Settlement of the community by farmers via the Donation Land Claim Act began in the middle of the 19th century. Rail service to Portland began in 1892, spurring residential development. The resulting suburb was gradually annexed by Portland beginning in the 1960s and completing in 1994.

Portland is TERRIBLY congested. We dont have rush 'hour'---we have rush DAY. Road systems were not built for our population and there is littlehope of it ever being fixable. Growth is planned to the east of Portland.

Its actually not too bad going into downtown from that area, as you have many routes. It depends a lot on what you consider 'downtown', also. Its not fun at all to try for downtown from western areas. You would be east/southeast of it. Yes there are stores and restaurants all around you.

If you are concerned about safety, your best source of information is the local police department, therefore contact/visit with all your questions; if unfamiliar with the area, do visit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors; real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods.

Raleigh Hills is an older neighborhood with good access to down town Portland , Hwy 26 to Hillsboro, and 217 to the I-5 corridor. Depends a lot on where you are looking in Raleigh Hills, it is on the edge of Multnomah and Washington Counties, with very different property tax fees in Multnomah. There are some great neighborhoods depending on your price.

Let me know if I can help-503-464-6058.
