Clara, this is one of the typical rental scams out there - you were wise to question it.
Report the email to trulia - I believe there is a report button for that purpose.

Be wary of any far fetched stories like this one. The scammers always claim to be out of the area with elaborate you would be asked to wire money for the keys. They come up with all kinds of stories as to why you can't see the place in person..........the biggest tip off that this is a scam is that the rental amount is usually way too low - too good to be true...because it isn't true!

Don't be lured in because you see real photos...they often cut and paste photos from real listings.

Best thing to do is find a property management company -- many of them advertise their listings on craigslist. If you see some decent posts, contact the rental agents and ask them to help you. Not all listings are advertised, so there may be a few that will meet your requirements.

Is there another area besides Oakland that you may want to consider --- Alameda, for example. We's an island just across the bridge from Oakland. Fabulous community with dog parks and paths (imagine walking along Shoreline Drive with fantastic views of the city.

Call me at 510 205 2992 if you need more information. Perhaps I may be able to help you.

Ane, can you elaborate? If this listing is not a legitimate real estate listing and you think there may be some violation of law, then I would contact The Department of Real Estate, the agency that oversees real estate agents, brokers and the industry. there are local offices in SF, Oakland etc. Easy to locate.

If this is a spammer via Trulia you are talking about? I would contact Trulia directly as none of us who are on here answering questions really can do anything. We are individual agents and consumers ion the Trulia site, engaging in dialogue, questions and answers etc. about real estate.

Definately let Trulia know if this is the issue.. but if it is something unethical/illegal regarding a real estate listing, please contact the DRE.

Good luck!

As a hardcore animal lover I can appreciate your concerns. My expertise is with buyers and sellers of real estate not renters so I don't have an easy answer for you. I can though direct you to a site where you can gain a lot of valuable information about Oakland rental units:
Here you'll get feedback from folks who have lived in the complex, what they liked and disliked, etc. If you don't mind spending a little time reviewing the comments you might come up with some good possibilities. Good luck!
