There are some people who just like to take advantage of other people, that's why Realtors were created.

One of the downsides of renting, is that it's hard to find a an agent that can help you find a home, serve you, and protect you... Plus in some cases, renting ends up being more expensive than owning.

Have you considered in buying, instead of renting?

I would consult a real estate attorney but if it is a fully signed lease and there is nothing in there that states otherwise I would assume the landlord can not make you move out but you need to consult with a CA attorney.
