Hi Henni, Craigslist does have a short-term rental section which has lots of month-to-month options-- have you checked that? In addition, another great resources is Westside Rentals, which is a fee-based website. Many of my clients have had good luck with them. I believe access to their listings is approx. $60 for a 90-day subscription. Hope this helps! Elise Knepper, ... more

Typically if the lease rental payment is significant.. it warrants a realtor... I would only do it for properties above $8K per month and as an accommodation to a known client.

However, we manage over 400 properties in my office and as a property manager the team can find tenants and manage maintenance calls, etc. That is done as a property management service.

I hope this helps,

Hello Anna,

Your best option for any rental under $1,000 - especially as a month to month and needing a house is to try There are no rentals listed in any city between Malibu and L.A. that are under $1800 per month. Actually, there are only 3 listings that are even on the MLS as a month to month- and two of the three are extremely expensive. I'm sorry. I wish there was a way to help... ... more

I'm glad you see these for what they are. Scams continue to proliferate because people continue to fall for them. The same scam exists on other sites too. I first found it on Craigslist several years ago.
Your best bet to find a legitimate rental listing is to find a local agent where you are hoping to live. Properties listed on the MLS are not completely immune from the possibility of fraud, but the risk drops when you have a professional on your side who can verify various things.

Hi Angel,

Generally the owner listing the property would be paying the broker fee. I am a property manager as well as an agent, so I might be able to help you. Please email me about the areas you are searching, price range, number of occupants, date of move, and pets (if any).

All the best,

When in doubt, walk away. There are foreign scam artists who have been preying on people on Craig's List for years. Now I am starting to hear stories like this about other sites like Trulia. If you find a property listed for rent, and it is NOT for rent but IS for sale, please alert the administrators here at Trulia. If a realtor is offering the property for rent OR for sale, please also contact the realtor.

The scam goes like this, an owner puts their house up for sale through a realtor. The realtor does their job, takes photos and lists it on various websites including Trulia and Craig's list. Foreign con artists see the listing, steal the photos and offer it for rent at an unbelievably good price (which should be your first clue) and say, 'we were going to sell but changed our minds' and 'we were relocated for our job to (fill in the blank, some foreign country), or 'we are missionaries' and then they ask you to email an application and eventually wire transfer the secuirty deposit and first month's rent to a foreign bank. Your money is GONE, the house is NOT for rent and they are NOT the owners! I have even heard horror stories of people showing up with a lease and a moving van.

Please, don't fall for this scheme and, please, let those in authority know if you suspect such a scheme. It needs to end and the only way to make it end is for it to be reported.
