The reason Realtors will not give their own opinion is the federal laws against "steering" or "block busting". This laws discourage Realtors from characterizing geographic areas in a way that could make those areas less desirable to buyers. But for the best accuracy, call the local police department for crime stats on the area.

In my opinion, there are no specific areas (zip codes) that are unsafe. Old Town is as safe as La Cueva district, or Ventana Ranch. Live your life, and be vigilant.
