We can get you into a place. It's hard to get a loan without a job. You might want to come to the area you plan to buy in and get familiar with the area. If you can get a personal loan for the $20K you would be set to purchase your home here. ... more

Read your contract. They may not have to give you anything back and are being generous. It's hard to speculate not having all of the information. It is typical for a builder to keep all of a down payment if a borrower walks away for any reason... that is whey they ask for a down payment. If nobody had any skin in the game it's hard to know if a buyer is really serious.

Read your contract if you feel you should get a full refund but that is very unlikely.
