The first issue is trying to find a seller who is interested in doing a rent to own. Most sellers need to sell their current hom in order to move to their next home. If they allow a rent to own, they are really only renting, with an option to purchase...maybe. I say maybe, because most Rent to Own transactions never close. Your best option may be to rent for a year, while you clean up your credit. Contact a mortgage lender who can tell you what you need to do to clean up your credit so you can purchase a home in 12 months. It is usually better to buy than rent, so you want to minimize your time renting.
